The UMZE Ensemble (Új Magyar Zene Egyesülete — New Hungarian Music Association) is a contemporary classical music chamber ensemble based in Budapest, founded in 1997 by Zoltán Rácz as a revival of an earlier society established by Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály in 1911. UMZE is dedicated to performing modern and experimental works, and has premiered compositions by leading Hungarian composers such as György Kurtág and Péter Eötvös, as well as giving first Hungarian performances of works by Olivier Messiaen, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Steve Reich. UMZE has performed at major venues worldwide including Carnegie Hall, Wiener Festwochen, and the Avignon Festival.
